The diversity of Lanna art and culture will be presented through various forms of art during the "Art And Craft Market" at the Mae Fah Luang Art and Cultural Park in Chiang Rai from tomorrow to Sunday from 4-9pm.

Organised for the first time by the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage, the fair will gather Lanna-style craft works and contemporary arts from local communities, educational institutes and hilltribe people in Doi Tung.

There will be an exhibition to get visitors to learn more about Somdet Ya, or the Princess Mother of Thailand, who founded what has today become the Mae Fah Luang Foundation and constructed the Mae Fah Luang Art and Cultural Park to be a centre of Lanna art and culture.

Listen to many local artists who will share their opinions about making Chiang Rai a "true city of art" in a seminar tomorrow at 5pm and witness many cultural performances including a sacred puja drums show, a procession of flower bowl blessing (or khan dok), a hilltribe show, and Lanna folk dance.

There will also be craft workshops showing how to make and paint ceramic, create a tray garden and make a bag from plastic; demonstrations on silverware making, wood carving and Lanna offerings making; and a painting exhibition featuring works by students in Chiang Rai.

This is also an opportunity to try hill-tribe cuisine and many other northern dishes and witness a display of rare and ancient Lanna art objects including puja drums, hamyon or sacred carved wood, sattaphan or candle holders, sumdok or floral offerings, and klong aew or a single-headed long drum.
