Thailand's scorching summer weather is upon all of us. In some provinces, especially in the northern region, the temperature reached 47C according to the weather forecast from the Thai Meteorological Department.

So let's just cool down a bit with films and series set in very cold locations. Although moving images of snow and ice sheets cannot literally lower the temperature that is burning outside, at least watching them might be able to help cool us down from within. Here are our picks.

•When The Weather Is Fine

The Korean romantic series starring superstar Park Min-young (What's Wrong With Secretary Kim, Her Private Life) and Seo Kang-joon tells the story of a cello teacher who is emotionally hurt by others and decides to move from Seoul back to her hometown in Bookhyun Village, where she reunites with her childhood friend who runs Goodnight Bookstore. When a woman from Seoul and a man from a quiet town meet, little by little their lives change.

Shot in Yeongwol County, located in Gangwon province in the northeast of South Korea, the series is full of beautiful landscapes -- the picturesque snow covering houses and grounds. The drama is now streaming on Viu.

•Eight Below

What's better than watching cute Alaskan malamutes and Siberian huskies in the Antarctic while we hunker down to get away from the heat outside. Eight Below, starring the late Paul Walker (The Fast And The Furious legend), is a survival drama about sled dogs that are trained to save the lives of people working for an Antarctic research centre. One day, suddenly, the place is hit by a heavy snow storm and unfortunately the helicopter that comes to take researchers back to safety has no more space left for the dogs. How will they survive the sub-zero temperature without food?

For dog lovers, be prepared to shed tears. Available on the iTunes Store.

•The Day After Tomorrow

As if New York City wasn't damaged enough by the coronavirus, The Day After Tomorrow -- starring Jake Gyllenhaal -- tells the story of a devastating natural disaster that turns the Big Apple into a new Ice Age. This is another survival film that should not be missed, as it's a story of sacrifice, fatherly love and generosity for other human beings. No better time to watch this. Now streaming on Netflix.

•The Harry Potter franchise

Harry Potter films are back in the spotlight, with stars and celebrities including Daniel Radcliffe, David Beckham, Stephen Fry and Dakota Fanning now delivering narrated versions for global fans for free. And this year also sees the 20th anniversary of the Thai version of the Harry Potter books. So it's about time to delve into the film franchise set in various cool places of England and Scotland. Remember the snowball fight between Potter donning his invisibility cloak and Malfoy in Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban? Or Hogwarts covered in snow? The eight Harry Potter films are available on iTunes Store.

•Snowpiercer

Snowpiercer.

Directed by Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho (Parasite), the 2013 science-fiction action film might not have many snowy scenes but it's a story about a group of people trying to survive a new Ice Age. Outside, it's a planet covered in thick ice and snow. But inside a circumnavigational train, the Snowpiercer, passengers are segregated by class, with the elite in the extravagant front bogies eating haute couture delicacies while the poor are forced into squalid tail compartments eating only slimy protein blocks.

Doesn't sound nice, does it? But the film -- starring Chris Evans -- is an awful taste of truth. Available on Google Play.
