The "Earth Guardians Character Design Competition" is back and looking for the best young international concept designers.

Organised by Education New Zealand in collaboration with the country's Massey University, which ranked in the top 100 of the QS World University Rankings for art and design, and Weta Workshop, the competition is an opportunity for Thai high school students ages 14 to 18 years (as of July 1, 2021) to showcase their creative ideas with other international students.

Participants are required to create a character to defend the Earth, using nature and the elements to inspire their designs. They also must tell where the character lives, what special powers it has and links it may have to specific places, myths and legends.

Characters can be submitted as digital images, scanned drawings, paintings or high-quality photographs of 3D models. Entry submissions must include the name of the character, a 300-word description of the inspiration behind the character, its living environment and any special powers or tools it uses.

Each individual may submit a maximum of two different characters. Entries must be their own original idea and not a copy of anyone else's work.

Prizes are available in two categories -- a Wacom 16-inch Cintiq Pen Display for the winner of the "International Ultimate Concept Artist Award" category and a one-year Adobe Stock or Adobe Creative Cloud subscription for the winner of the "International Rising Stars Highly Commended Awards x5" category.

Entries should be submitted by July 1 and the finalists will be announced on Aug 13.
