Weerasak Sunthornsri of the acclaimed "songs for life" band Caravan has died at the age of 71.

Fellow musician Surachai Chantimatorn posted a Facebook message on Friday saying Weerasak had died peacefully in the bedroom of his house in Bangkok earlier that day.

“A lone warrior lives a lonely life and dies lonely,” Surachai wrote in a tribute message.

The cause of death remains unknown and the body was sent to Police General Hospital for an autopsy.

Guitarist Weerasak formed the T. Sen Lae Sanjorn band in 1973 with Surachai and a year later the Caravan band along with Mongkol Uthok and Thongkran Thana.

Caravan is a folk band that pioneered the songs for life movement with music reflecting the social problems and injustice they saw in society in the 1970s.

The bathing rite for Weerasak will be held at 4pm at Sala 5 of Wat Khubon in Klong Sam Wa district of Bangkok on Sunday. Chanting will be held from Sunday to Tuesday and the cremation will be held on Wednesday.
