The popular Contemporary World Film Series returns with September (Septiembre, Un Llanto En Silencio) as the opening film of the year, at TK Park, 8th floor of CentralWorld, Ratchadamri Road, on June 29 at 4pm.

This is a drama from the lush and beautiful country of Guatemala and also the first film from the country to be screened in Thailand. Directed by Guatemalan filmmaker Kenneth Mueller, the story is a powerful exploration of love, resilience and the human spirit.

September opens on a shocking note with a terrorist bombing of a bus carrying everyday people. The explosion kills a mother carrying a baby, and the baby becomes deaf. The attack refers to a notorious bombing by guerrillas on Sept 5, 1980.

The incident affected the director's life personally, because his mother and brother were on the ill-fated bus. His mother was not killed, but his brother became deaf.

In the film, the baby daughter Theresa is brought up by her father and the two face many challenges. She grows into a lovely girl, falls in love, but politics is a blockade.

The lead role is played by a brilliant actor who has starred in many regional films and supported by a very talented actress who prepared for her role by interacting with the director's deaf brother. The film moved audiences at festivals around the world.

The screening is supported by the Embassy of Guatemala and Guatemalan ambassador Shirley Dennise Aguilar Barrera will be there to introduce the film. An array of local snacks and drinks will be served after the screening.

The movie is in Spanish with English subtitles. There is admission fee but entry to TK Park is 20 baht.

Reservations can be made by emailing filmforum17@gmail.com.
