Bangkok Art Biennale 2024, which will be running for four months from Oct 24 this year to Feb 25 next year, has announced some exciting news.
Following the revelation of the first group of 15 artists who will be taking part in the festival, 30 additional names were recently announced alongside three more locations to further enrich the event.
Held in collaboration with Thai Beverage, the fourth edition of the festival continues to spotlight Southeast Asia's vibrant art scene while also bringing diverse international perspectives.
It will showcase 200 artworks by 45 artists and collectives from North America, Asia, Europe, Africa and Oceania across nine venues in Bangkok.
The venues are Wat Arun, Wat Pho, Wat Prayoon, Museum Siam, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, One Bangkok, as well as the three new locations -- National Gallery, National Museum's Siwamokhaphiman Hall and Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.

Set to be displayed here for the first time will be drawings, paintings, sculptures, videos and installations by established and emerging artists such as Adel Abdessemed (Algeria-France), Susan Collins (UK), Chiara Camoni (Italy), Priyageetha Dia (Singapore), Guerreiro do Divino Amor (Switzerland-Brazil), Camille Henrot (France-USA), Choi Jeong Hwa (South Korea), Chitra Ganesh (USA), Aki Inomata (Japan), Elmgreen & Dragset (Denmark and Norway), Isaac Chong Wai (Hong Kong-Berlin) and Lisa Reihana (New Zealand).
Also, expect to see a series of artist performances and symposiums during vernissage week.
Led by Prof Apinan Poshyananda, chief executive and artistic director of the Bangkok Art Biennale, the dedicated curatorial team for this year's edition includes Pojai Akratanakul, curator and curatorial section lead of the Biennale; art critic and educator Brian Curtin; Akiko Miki from Benesse Art Site Naoshima; and Paramaporn Sirikulchayanont from Silpakorn University.
The 2024 Biennale focuses on the theme "Nurture Gaia", referring to a primordial goddess and the personification of Mother Earth in Greek mythology. Extending upon this, the upcoming event will explore contemporary themes such as anthropology, collectivism, ecology, feminism and the politics of time and place.
