Here are two interesting Korean programmes you can watch this month. First is the unusual TV dating show Possessed Love and the second is for those who missed Blackpink's world tour Born Pink and want to watch it in cinemas.
Possessed Love
Available on VIU Thailand
Due to societal pressure, young Koreans feel the urge to find partners which makes dating programmes popular. The latest dating show, Possessed Love, is different from others because all eight participants work in the spiritual industry as shaman, tarot readers or saju, traditional Korean fortune tellers.
In the first episode, participants have to select a partner based on their date of birth without seeing physical appearances. While shaman communicate with deities to find compatible partners, tarot readers use cards to search for ideal matches and saju fortune tellers use traditional knowledge to predict their partners. These scenes are more like a horror movie, not a dating show.
All participants are young, attractive and dress stylishly. One of them even graduated from a prestigious university, but no one can guess they work as fortune tellers from their appearance. When they have to choose a person they like without considering astrology, everyone picks someone whose appearance appeals to them. It is interesting to see if their final choice is based on superstition or judgement.
