The 72 portraits that made it into the final round of the Italthai Portrait Prize 2024 are currently on show at RCB Galleria 3, 2nd floor of River City Bangkok, Charoen Krung 24, until Nov 3.

In its fourth year, the competition is a platform that promotes both amateur and professional artists, allowing them to shine in the art scene at national and international levels. It also elevates the conversation by addressing current social issues through the remarkable works of the winners.

This year's competition received 237 entries, showcasing the talent of artists who competed for cash prizes worth 900,000 baht in total.

Winners of the Portrait Prize (My Girl My Gang), the Packing Room Prize (My Wife) and the Youth Prize (Waiting For This Moment For So Long) were picked by a distinguished seven-member jury, comprising influential figures from commercial, governmental, and institutional sectors. There are also special awards for two runners-up entries (Cleaning and Dollar).

The winning portraits not only showcase the impressive skills and stories of the artists but also reflect diverse perspectives and raise questions about societal views on the image of women today. They emphasise that there is not just one way to define what it means to be a woman of strength, and that there no longer needs to be strict boundaries dictating how the roles and images of women in Thai society should be portrayed.

The winning works and other finalists are available for public viewing and the portrait that gets the most votes from exhibition visitors will win the People's Choice Prize, which will be announced on Nov 4.
