Do you know that one of the silent threats to our planet is the rising global demand for meat? Over the past two decades, global meat consumption has surged by more than 58%, creating serious ecological consequences that often go unnoticed.
In Thailand, more than 7 million rai of land, mostly in hilly, steep regions, is dedicated to maize farming, with 95% of this maize used to feed livestock in the meat industry. The widespread practice of burning crop residues after harvest is a significant contributor to the PM2.5 air pollution, directly affecting the health of Thai citizens.
While many recognise its role in the PM2.5 pollution crisis, fewer understand the industry's broader impact -- deforestation, biodiversity loss, habitat destruction, and climate change.
World Animal Protection Thailand invites those with creative minds to address the environmental crisis caused by maize farming through art during "Behind The Feed: Print Ad Contest", which is accepting print ad designs until Oct 18.
Held under the theme "The Impact Of Maize Animal Feed On The Environment", the contest is a platform for creative individuals to drive change and use their talent to raise awareness about sustainable environmental solutions and challenge decision-makers in an industry that is disrupting the natural balance.
Submissions are accepted in two formats -- print and mobile screen display. All forms of media are welcome, including mixed media such as photography, graphic design, drawings, and AI-generated or adapted images.
Entries will be judged based on creativity, clarity, relevance to the campaign's message, emotional impact and overall design. Prizes worth over 60,000 baht are up for grabs.
The finalists' works will be showcased at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre from Oct 29 to Nov 3 to amplify the message and inspire public engagement. The winner will be announced on Oct 30.
Submissions can be made via worldanimalprotection.or.th/behind-the-feed by Oct 18.
