Aboriginal dancers set to entrance

Australia's leading indigenous dance company, Bangarra Dance Theatre, will hold its first workshop and masterclass for Thai students and dance teachers in Bangkok.

Bangarra Dance Theatre will hold a workshop and masterclass in Australian Aboriginal dance at Bangkok Dance Academy, Siam Paragon, on Friday.

Both activities will take place at Bangkok Dance Academy, 4th floor of Siam Paragon, on Friday.

Dance is an integral art form through which culture can be understood. Beyond learning new moves and choreographic thinking, participants will get a unique cultural experience.

They will be learning the dances of and gaining an insight into the world's oldest continuing culture, Australia's Aboriginal people. The activities will be led by Bangarra artistic director Stephen Page and cultural consultant Kathy Balngayngu.

Bangarra is recognised internationally for its distinctive dance theatre performances that combine the spirituality of traditional culture with modern storytelling.

Under Page's leadership since 1991, Bangarra has celebrated Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultures.

Bangarra dancers have made an outstanding contribution towards the teaching and understanding of Australia's cultural diversity and the Australian dance scene. Their performances have excited audiences worldwide.

Bangarra's visit is organised by the Australian Embassy, Bangkok.

Observers are welcome at the workshop and masterclass, which will take place on Friday from 1.30pm to 3pm and 4pm to 5.30pm, respectively. Space is limited. To reserve a seat, contact Bangkok Dance Academy on 081-935-5039.
