Pravana artistic educator Melody Larissa is always looking to refine her talents. She was recently named winner of the US brand's "Show Us Your Artistry" contest in the ChromaSilk category.

She was in Bangkok last week to share her colouring techniques with local stylists and introduce 12 certified Pravana Preferred Salons in Thailand.

The Thai stylists from each salon showed their creativity in using Pravana products at the launch event, titled "Bangkok, The City Of Colours By Pravana", held at Zen Event Gallery.

"Pravana wants to empower hair stylists through our products," Larissa said. "Likewise, hair colour will empower our clients too. Hair is like a crown. It is not just a part of your beauty but it is also your personality. Hair colouring can bring confidence and brighten your life."

Based in Culver City, California, Pravana was founded in 2004. It takes its name from a Sanskrit word meaning the "source of all things".

"The name takes us back to nature. Thus, Pravana products contain natural ingredients while featuring the latest technology. Moreover, our packaging is also eco-friendly and biodegradable," Larissa said.

The professional product brand is notable for its silk and keratin-based ChromaSilk permanent crème colour, available in more than 130 shades. This range has been extended to include everlasting vivid colours such as Bewitching Blue, Enchanted Pink and Poison Berry.

ChromaSilk Vivids semi-permanent colours include neon and pastel shades that allow many possibilities in fashioning hair.

Pure Light Ultra Lightener, a pre-lightener for Vivids, especially when creating pastel shades, is also used to transform dark hair into platinum blonde.

"It is all about individuality. You can try all shades and styles, regardless of hair type, colour or texture. It is how you would like to present yourself," said Larissa, whose salon is in Westerville, Ohio.

Pravana Preferred Salons in Thailand will follow the same standard in providing a premium hair colouring experience. Pravana takes quality of service, staff, tools and equipment into consideration before granting their certification.

"Consultation is also a key to achieve desirable hair colouring," she said. "An open and honest consultation with a reliable professional, who understands a customer's hair journey, like where do they want to start and finish, will bring good results."

The key to colour maintenance is to wash hair less, she advised.

"You may feel greasy but it's OK. You can train your scalp. If you wash your hair every day, you can start to do it three times a week until it's just once a week. In between that you can use dry shampoo," she said.
