Hotels adapt to the times

With everyone adapting to the new norm, hotels have had to reimagine the services they provide. Thinking well outside the box has become an important prerequisite, not just to generate revenue, but also to comfort and soothe the safety-conscious, yet still discerning guests. Guru lists a few examples of the innovative measures.

Book now stay later

Several hotels and resorts have released advance booking vouchers that are applicable for future stays, with a few being valid for up to a year. Guests pay upfront for their desired room type, receives a voucher and have until the expiry date to reserve dates of stay. Plus: Such vouchers are sold at discounted prices.

At Prachuap Khiri Khan's pet-friendly X2 Kui Buri Resort, vouchers are available for stays in the Deluxe Pool Villa for two people and a pet for B5,500 a night, the Ocean Front Pool Villa for two people and a pet for B9,500 a night, and the Luxury Pool Villa Suite for four persons and a pet for B13,000 a night -- all deals are inclusive of a breakfast buffet.

Silavadee Pool Spa Resort has rolled out a long-stay promotion called, "Samui Getaway". Each voucher allows for a seven-night stay between June 1-Dec 23, 2020. It is meant for two persons, and includes a daily breakfast buffet, two complimentary dinner sets, round-trip airport transfers, free shuttle bus service to Lamai and Chaweng beaches and a 20% discount on F&B and laundry services. These vouchers vary in price according to the room type: Jacuzzi Deluxe (B40,600), Tropical Pool Villa (B59,500) and Pool Villa with Partial Ocean View (B69,300). Each voucher can be applied for accommodation, onsite dining venues and spa treatments at Quan Spa. Price starts from B5,000. WFH: Work From Hotel

If WFH is getting to you and you need a change of environment, try the ­other WFH aka Work From Hotel. Many hotels are renting out their rooms during the day, complete with all the office equipment one would need. Guests get to choose from a wide price range provided by budget hotels, upscale properties and everything in between.

For short-term or a monthly change of scenery, a few hotels have begun to temporarily operate as serviced apartments.

At Akyra Thonglor Bangkok, rental options for residence suites start at B28,100 per week. Take your pick between One, Two or Three-Bedroom Residences. They all come with sweeping city views, warm wood interiors, fully-equipped kitchenettes and separate living and dining areas. More facilities include an oversized bathtub, a king-sized bed, an LED smart TV, a writing table with a stationery set and high-speed internet. The hotel also offers free shuttle services to hospitals and medical care venues.

Rainforest Rising Campaign

Give back to nature at Anurak Community Lodge, which is set amid the lush greenery of Khao Sok National Park.
