Farmers' market comes to Bangkok's heart

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

Lido Connect, a co-cultural space in Siam Square, will be transformed into an agricultural marketplace called "Shop Tid Farm EP.0", which will bring a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables direct from farms and orchards from tomorrow to Sunday, June 25-28, daily from 11am to 8pm.

Organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), in collaboration with the Property Management of Chulalongkorn University (PMCU) and the Let's Help Farmers (or Kin Chuay Kasetrakorn) Facebook group, the special four-day event is aimed at assisting Thai farmers affected by Covid-19 sell their produce directly to customers.

This is a rare opportunity to shop for fresh farm produce including vegetables, fruits and herbs; learn how to select seasonal fruits; and witness model farms right in the heart of Bangkok's shopping district. Many fun activities will also be presented.

The non-for-profit Let's Help Farmers Facebook group was founded three months ago with the purpose to promote the philosophy of the sufficiency economy initiated by King Rama IX and to be a centre to help farmers with academic knowledge of production, management, transportation and distribution of their products.

The upcoming fair will become an on-ground platform for members to sell their quality products face to face with customers. To help reduce rubbish and costs for farmers, visitors are also encouraged to bring boxes and cushioning materials that they no longer want to donate to the farmers at the fair.
