Pageant season this year may seem quiet due to Covid-19, however, that's about to change as Miss Universe Thailand 2020 is officially getting the green light despite several other international pageants deciding to cancel or postpone their competition until next year.

TPN Global, the organiser of the Miss Universe Thailand pageant, recently launched the 2020 competition under the theme "Real U, Real Universe" to seek the ultimate beauty queen to win the coveted Miss Universe crown. Interested contestants can register until tomorrow and fans can look forward to the announcement of the finalists starting early next month. The top 30 finalists will be revealed in an opening ceremony on Sept 14. Contestants will then undergo training sessions and activities in Bangkok for one week, which will be followed by an excursion in Hua Hin. The gala night and the swimsuit competition will be held during this excursion.

During the press conference, the organiser revealed it will incorporate different technologies and online streaming content will be supported by True 5G to offer fans a seamless experience in cheering for their favourite beauty queens. Audiences can also get involved in the decision-making process through the voting system that will be available during the contest.

The preliminary round is set for Oct 7 and the final round, which will see the crowning of the new Miss Universe Thailand, will take place on Oct 10 at True Icon Hall, Iconsiam. A live broadcast will be available on PPTV36 while Index Creative Village will handle the production design. The winner of the competition will receive one million baht in cash prize, plus a car and a condominium. The new Miss Universe Thailand crown will be designed by Mouawad, which also made the Miss Universe 2019 crown that eventually went to South African beauty queen Zozibini Tunzi.

Miss Universe Thailand titleholders have had a consistent record of great performance on the Miss Universe stage. In the past five years, two of them reached the top 10, one in the top 6, and two in top 5, including last year's representative Paweensuda Drouin. The date and venue of the 2020 competition have yet to be announced by the Miss Universe Organization though it's speculated that the pageant could be postponed until early 2021.
