Hong Kong-based K11 Group has partnered with the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA), to create limited-production MOCA Masks featuring designs and works of nine globally-celebrated artists.

The collection is being exhibited at K11 MUSEA located in Victoria Dockside art and design district developed by New World Group, the parent company of K11 Group.

The project is spearheaded by Adrian Cheng, who founded K11 Group to enrich consumers' daily life through creativity, culture and innovation.

It features works by Andy Warhol, Yoko Ono, Virgil Abloh, Mark Grotjahn, Alex Israel, Barbara Kruger, Catherine Opie, Pipilotti Rist and Hank Willis Thomas.

From MOCA's permanent collection, Warhol's Flowers painting has been miniaturised for the mask while Rist's piece portrays an image of man's face masked by a flower.

Ono's iconic works include fragments of a blue sky for a thought-provoking jigsaw puzzle, of which a piece of the sky fits perfectly in a jigsaw pattern on the mask.

Grotjahn and Opie respectively designed their masks with a geometric motif and a whimsical image of a lower part of a man's face with a moustache.

The designs also feature typography with "Still Speaks Loudly", "Better Safe Than Sorry", and "Life, Handle With Care" as messages conveyed in the masks by Abloh, Kruger and Thomas.

Israel's exclusive creation for K11 stands out with a sunset palette and an artist portrait pin.

MOCA's first mask project reflects the museum's commitment to making the experience of art accessible and encouraging the urgency of contemporary expression.

Each mask is handled much like a work of art, from creative to curatorial to production and presentation. Priced at HK$320 each (1,300 baht), the masks are crafted in Los Angeles. Depending on the design, they vary in fabric such as 100% cotton, cotton blends or 100% polyester micro-fibre.
