Pangina Heals' 13 Looks for Halloween

Drag diva reveals spookiest personas

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

Halloween is on Oct 31, but for a drag diva like Pan Pan Narkprasert, better known as Pangina Heals and co-host of Drag Race Thailand, every day is pretty much an occasion to dress up spooky, kooky and ooky. As the first guest of our new Style page, Pan Pan tells us what's behind 13 of his most stunning-yet-spookiest lewks to celebrate Halloween. BTW, go to Parties page if you want to join his "Healoween" party.

1. Gagging for Gaga

This Gaga look was inspired by her actual costume in her concert. I was just so in love with Gaga. She was one of the reasons why I do drag. I was inspired by her essence and how she's being so supportive of the LGBT community. The look is very devilish-gone-silver heaven. It was one of my favourite outfits to wear because it's so reflective like a big perfect disco ball.

2. No Clowning Around

Funnily enough, I usually hate horror movies. I never watched them and then suddenly I watched It. I don't like bloody movies, but I like a movie like It because it's so haunting and I've been so inspired by this look that I've performed as Pennywise so many times. I love changing my drag up because I don't feel like drag should just be one thing. You should always be versatile and unexpected so that when people come to my show, they don't know what to expect. I love doing prosthetic teeth to make myself look crazy and the bald cap so that I have a huge, receding hairline. I just love being It. It's one of my favourite looks to do for Halloween.

3. Burlesque Queen

I was really inspired by Dita Von Teese and that vintage era, where the hair is perfect, the look is perfect. For once, I wanted to look perfect because I had never felt glam before. This costume was made by Pardorn Ketrat, one of the people who work for Miss Universe and does Miss Universe's outfits. It was one of my favourite outfits ever, photographed by Khun Pat (Phatthara Lertsukittipongsa), one of my favourite photographers, as well. This is a complete, heaven, Von Teese-inspired look.

4. With the Children

This was from a challenge on Drag Race Thailand. It was about the girls coming back from the death. It was shot for the series' season two. All of the girls were dressed in black. It's very Addams Family portrait kind of look with Art Araya [Drag Race Thailand co-host] and me. It's as if we all rose from the dead. Photographed by Surachai "Pui" Saengsuwan.

5. Hungry and Me

Meeting Hungry (@isshehungry on IG) is one of my favourite moments from co-hosting Drag Race Thailand. Hungry's such an icon. She's a make-up artist from New York and she is half-Thai as well, we didn't know that. We were so lucky to have her [as a guest judge] on the show. She was so kind, humble and her look is always on point. Her make-up inspires so many drag queens, including me. In that episode, I knew everyone was going to go crazy, so I wanted to look more demure and tried to soften it down. This look by Art Araya is, by far, one of my favourite looks she has done. So extreme. It was great that every week we put on look that are on different lanes but somehow matched.

6. Robobiotch

I was working for gCircuit and the theme was 'From the Future' or something along that line. I worked with Miu (Teerawat Janseng). He's an amazing designer, someone I work with a lot. The look was designed to be very futuristic and robotic, like someone from a future world. Lots of pipes.

7. Mother Nature

This look is very hauntingly beautiful and was photographed by Surachai Saengsuwan. I got to work with this amazing floral artist, who built the set that I went in and wore this very heavy headpiece. The flowers were all so beautifully designed and I'd never seen someone did that kind of art before. It was very unconventional and I felt like a ghost that lives in a tree like a nymph. (This picture is part of Dok photo exhibition by Surachai Saengsuwan in which he featured 15 personalities in Thai LGBT community in their floral forms.)

8. Witches of Bangkok

Me and the girls had an event and the theme was 'witches'. It was so funny because we all decided to go as different witches. I used the same dress that was made by the person who worked with Miss Universe, whom I mentioned earlier. Though one thing about me is that I never wear one dress twice, so I mixed and matched the dress with other things and a different headpiece, giving it a different effect.

9. Supreme Witch

This look was photographed during the Halloween as well. I was really inspired by witches much more in this picture. I was watching these witch movies and noticed that most of them when they are about to go ape s***, their blood vessels and their faces pop. So I did this make-up, just like how I imagined my blood vessels would explode. But make it glamorous. I put on a lot of glitters and had black crystals on my face.

10. Miss Medusa

The interesting thing about when I do Medusa is that the whole day before I had to perform as her, I'd only eat boiled eggs to make myself feel like a snake. To get into the character for the show, I would also listen to the sound that snakes make. So when I go on the stage, I could completely act like a goddess of the snakes. I love this look because I get to really let loose and be crazy on the stage. I just had the best time when I performed Medusa.

11. Bold and Bald

I was inspired by the notion of 'eyebrows are the crown of the face'. Everybody is so obsessed with eyebrows and everyone wants big eyebrows, like Cara Delevingne's. I'm a drag queen, so I'm just going to exaggerate eyebrows as big as possible. This idea occurred during the lockdown and I was being very uninspired, having to be in that situation. So I wanted to do something crazy, thinking 'What if eyebrows can make a statement and say my name?!' This look took us eight hours!

12. Terrifying Tokay

People always want to be something scary on Halloween and one of the things that Thai people, including me, is scared of the most is tokay gecko (gekko gecko), the Devil of the lizard family. So I thought why not be a took gae. Everyone was horrified when I posted this picture on Instagram. I think it was fun because I wanted to turn something that was considered ugly into art. And, to me, that is part of what drag is all about.

13. Glittered Gloves

This is another look that came out during the lockdown. I can't really explain much about it besides the fact that I thought about the future of drag and what it could be. So while I was working with my make-up artists, they were like 'No, you have to have those gloves on'. The funny thing is that these gloves that I was wearing in the photo were the only thing I got from a Drag Con that I attended two years ago. I was looking to buy them because they didn't sell them in Thailand and they were really very difficult to find. But then I met with the owner, who knew about me and she gave me the gloves. These gloves are from Unicorn Poop Glitter.
