New Year’s eve with the superstars at riverside terrace Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok

Surely  the  passing  of  2020  is even more cause for celebration than usual. And who better to articulate the mood of the moment with philosophical equanimity, mature emotionality and just a touch of decadence than a certain 144-year-old hotel that has lived through gracefully as much history as a dynasty?

As a point of honour, the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok always throws a world class new year’s bash, yet the programme prepared for this time around can only be described as being in a class of its own.

“Fireworks Above, Stars Below” New Year’s Eve Gala Buffet Dinner Dance and Performance at Riverside Terrace on Thursday, December 31, 2020 night is the place to be for those who live life to the full. So come along and give 2020 the sweet send-off it so richly deserves, and welcome, hopefully, nay confidently, the dawn of the new normal with a lot less trauma.

Take  your  places  please  ladies  & gentlemen  beside  the  contrastingly constant River of Kings for the event that will restore the hearty in party and kick Covid out of countenance!

The enchanted evening begins at 7:30 p.m. with welcome signature cocktails in the fabled Authors’ Lounge and a chance to mingle. This segues seamlessly into the gala dinner and show time with a line up headlined by Thailand’s Definitive Diva Nantida “Tu” Kaewbuasai, all-time favourite pan-Asian siren Jennifer Kim, sultan of smooth Koh Mr. Saxman, and award-winning Kittinan.

Meanwhile, guests graze on an extravagant array of Thai and international delicacies. There’s foie gras and duck with pistachio and black truffle, a caviar station, and pan-fried duck liver with mango sauce. Then move onto steamed lobster and spinach jade dumpling, freshly-shucked French and international oysters with Asian and Western trimmings,  and  roasted  wagyu  beef prime rib with truffle jus and Yorkshire pudding. Just for starters.

With the mood elevated and everyone  thoroughly  indulged,  the  hour  approaches to ring in 2021 with a fittingly momentous countdown and euphoric fireworks over the Chao Phraya River.

What a way to consign the old to the annals and gleefully embrace the next exciting episode!
