When was the last time you upgraded your desk light? Want to go all in on the smart home route? This Dyson "smart" light that can last 60 years may be the light that's right for you.

Previously, my desk housed a typical bendable light with minor colour adjustments that I thought that was adequate for everything I needed to do at my desk. Never did I think a desk light could be "smart", nor did I know a fully customisable colour temperature of light to be something that will affect productivity and reduce eye strain until I used the Dyson Lightcycle Morph desk light.

My thoughts changed after two months as I got used to moving the light to my area of focus and adjusting the yellow tint of the colour temperature and brightness to fit my mood. I also could turn the lamp off from the comfort of my bed by using a phone app.

This smart light's motion sensors will turn the lamp on automatically when you enter the room and turn off when you leave the area. However, I found this feature would mistakenly turn off, leaving me in the dark every now and then. Maybe my body didn't generate enough heat for it to detect, I don't know. Your mileage may vary on this aspect.

The adjustable and retractable arm is especially useful for focusing light where I wanted it, for example, when I assembled plastic models or when my children were doing their homework and their textbooks were properly illuminated. The arm can be extended and swings in a 1m radius, while the end part of the light can also be flipped upwards to easily light up a whole room. This light is very flexible, hence the word "morph" in its name.

This light became my family's choice before going to bed because it can produce a nice dimmish yellowish glow that is not at all irritating. What makes it stand out is that you can adjust the colour temperature to suit the time of day automatically (if you turn on the AI part).

Having the ability to turn off or adjust the light remotely amused my wife and is such a useful feature for lazy people, like me, performing the function from bed instead of getting up and physically turning off the light.

The day I received the desk light for review, I was overly concerned about its durability. Could it withstand the abuse from my two young teen daughters? They can be pretty careless. Two months passed, and it remains in mint condition even though it has been used extensively by work-from-home and study-from-home family members, sometimes more than 20 hours continuously in a room with just a fan blowing. While the bulb would burn fairly hot, the light's copper heat dissipation pipes keep the base cool enough to operate normally. Would it really last 60 years as Dyson claims? That is hard to test as I may not last that long, but I will update this review if it dies before then.

The more important question is would I buy an approximately 19,000 baht desk light? After using it for two months, my family says: "Definitely."
