Heartbound: A Different Kind Of Love Story.

Last week, many Thai people joined a new Facebook group titled "Let's Move Abroad" because they have lost hope in the country and are looking for other opportunities.

However, for some, living abroad is not perfect. Watching movies is a way to gain more information about other countries before visiting. Here are two documentaries, available online at documentaryclubthailand.com for 60 baht each, that give insight into life in foreign lands.

Heartbound: A Different Kind Of Love Story

This award-winning Danish documentary follows Thai-Danish couples over a period of 10 years. Twenty-five years ago, Isan sex worker Sommai met Danish man Niels in Pattaya. Sommai married Niels and moved to live in a small district called Thy in Denmark. While enjoying a better life, Sommai decided to help more Thai women marry Danish men. These women had lived through domestic violence and economic hardship. However, the movie reveals that life for Thai women in Denmark is not easy. They have to take low-skilled employment that local people do not want, however, their quality of life is still much better than in Thailand.

Where To Invade Next

Director Michael Moore wanted to highlight what is wrong in the US for ordinary working people. He visited several countries with much lower GDP to learn what the US government could do for people if it really wanted to. In Italy, he brings up the labour rights issue. Italians have a great work-life balance. They have a two-hour lunch break and several weeks of paid holiday. In France, children have healthy school meals and sex education is effective. Meanwhile, in Slovenia, a college education is free. The movie is informative for people who want to leave Thailand and live in a country with great social support and a better lifestyle.
