Walking the talk on Green Beauty, Garnier has taken further actions to help save the planet.

The brand has partnered with health and beauty retailer Watsons Thailand for a recycling campaign.

Consumers can drop PET water or micellar cleansing water bottles at recycling collection machines, located at Watsons stores in Central Plaza WestGate and The Mall Lifestore Ngamwongwan. In return, they will receive a Garnier product.

The brand uses a completely recyclable plastic bottle for Sakura Glow Hyaluron Water-Glow Essence. By 2025, Garnier will totally eliminate the use of virgin plastic. In the meantime, all packaging will be either reusable, recyclable or compostable.

Installing shelves made of paper is another approach to transform its point of sales.

Garnier is the first of L'Oreal Thailand's beauty brands to locally implement a new sustainability agenda.

A series of ambitious goals have been set for the "L'Oréal For The Future" pledge for 2030, which addresses three environmental issues: biodiversity, water management and recycling.

In addition, the sustainable goals include those defined by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in tackling climate change.

A partnership between non-profit CDP, World Wide Fund for Nature, United Nations Global Compact, and World Resources Institute, the SBTi promotes best practices in emissions reductions and net-zero targets in the private sector to limit global warming to 1.5C and curb the worst effects of climate change.

"Last year was a wake-up call for us and the planet as well as our physical health. Consumers increasingly look for brands with purpose and commitments to sustainability and the environment," said Ines Caldeira, CEO of L'Oréal Thailand.

"L'Oréal For The Future will transform the way we do business and reconfigure our value chain at the corporate and brand level. With this in place, we hope to help lessen our impact on the planet and innovate for a sustainable future while consumers can choose products that reflect their values."

Besides fighting plastic pollution, Garnier is engaged in the use of renewable energies and solidarity, sourcing sustainable and fair trade ingredients.

The Refun campaign encourages recycling of plastic packaging.

The brand was founded in 1904 when Alfred Amour Garnier launched a patented plant-based hair lotion. Today, the formulation of products is still based on botanical ingredients and aims at improving their ecological profile and biodegradability through employing Green Sciences, such as biotechnology.

Moreover, Garnier is also against animal testing and its hair and skincare products are approved by Cruelty Free International under the Leaping Bunny Programme.
