Due to lockdowns and limited access to salons, Dyson is offering some tips for DIY hairstyling at home.

The British company explored the science of style after gaining an understanding of what makes the hair smooth and shiny and what makes it dull, damaged and lifeless.

Its research and development in hair science involved state-of-the-art laboratories and a multidisciplinary research team of engineers, scientists, trichologists and other specialists, who studied thermal, mechanical and chemical damage on hair health.

The team also looked into consumers' styling habits around the world in order to provide problem-solving products.

After introducing the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer, the brand developed the Airwrap styler and Corrale straightener featuring Intelligent Heat Control and other technologies.

For styling with air and not extreme heat, the Dyson Airwrap features barrels that harness an aerodynamic phenomenon called the Coanda effect to attract and wrap hair. In addition, the Dyson brushes use the Coanda effect to attract hair to the surface of the brush, propelling air along the hair strands for a smoother, straighter style.

The Airwrap can be used for restyling between washes for a sleek low bun or after washing to create 70s curls or 90s wavy looks.

Getting the 70s curls takes seven steps, beginning with applying a medium-hold mousse, removing moisture with the pre-styling dryer attachment until hair is damp, and sectioning the hair.

In subsequent steps, strands are wrapped around the barrel and the Coanda effect occurs when a high-speed jet of air flows across the surface.

The barrel is held in place until the hair is fully dry before setting with a cold shot for maximum style retention.

Once all sections are curled, turn the head upside down and shake the curls and gently run fingers through the hair. This will add texture and body to the style and disrupt the curls into an organic, rather than refined pattern. The style is further fixed with a spritz of hairspray in the last step.
