No matter if there is chaos, pandemonium or disaster, the world will always be saved by the bold acts of a guardian.

This is a common theme in comics where superheroes reassure humankind with their abstract power and perhaps us today as we are still living in midst of a pandemic caused by a deadly villain known as Covid-19.

Now a question arises: "What would a Covid superhero look like?"

Responding to that question, world-renowned ceramicist Vipoo Srivilasa has initiated a special project calling on superhero fans.

Based in Melbourne, Australia, Vipoo is a Thai artist known for his work on historical European figurines. His quirky ceramic works, exhibited in galleries in Australia, London and Bangkok, blend his sharp-wit humour with skilful craft.

His initiative, dubbed "Covid Superheroes Project", encourages people to express their feelings and share their imagination on how their superheroes look. It allows them to reflect on their self-isolating anxiety in a creative, personal and positive way.

Candidates should send a drawing of their hero together with a short story of no more than 50 words. The story must include the superhero's name, description of powers, personalities, weaknesses, gender, catchphrases, habits and anything that makes him or her unique. Incorporating personal struggles during the self-isolation period into the drawing is strongly encouraged.

Vipoo will select the 12 most inspiring superheroes and invite contemporary Thai artists to bring them to life as small sculptures. Twelve writers from an online community will also be commissioned to write a 150-word story about each superhero.

The drawing, sculptures and their story will be presented at ATTA 'N' ATTA Art Space in November. The exhibition will serve as a record of people's emotions during these unprecedented times.
