After LUNA and UFO, Foreo has deviated from the space theme to name its new smart device Bear, which combines microcurrents with T-sonic pulsations for an energising facial workout.

"Foreo is recognised as a leader of futuristic cleansing solutions thanks to the iconic LUNA range and we created the phenomenon of power masking with UFO," said global travel retail director Gary Leong. "With the Bear range, we have once again flipped the industry upside down and now offer customers the best in at-home facial fitness to ensure healthy, toned and younger-looking skin."

Since the 1980s, microcurrent electrical therapy has been used for pain management and muscle stimulation. An alternative therapy for Bell's palsy, the therapy helps speed up recovery of damaged nerves in restoring facial movements. Aestheticians have applied the same principle for microcurrent facials to offer a non-invasive facelift.

Due to ageing, facial and neck muscles lose their tone and firmness. Mirroring the body's electrical currents, a low-voltage of electrical current "trains" the muscles for firmer-looking skin and more defined facial features.

Bear has two microcurrent spheres that channel energy directly into the skin.

Ergonomically shaped to fit facial curves, Bear delivers a strong microcurrent via two spheres that channel energy directly into the skin. Designed with smaller spheres, Bear Mini is used under the eyes, eyebrows, and smile lines.

Foreo's signature T-sonic pulsations provide a relaxing effect on tension points to smoothen the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

To assure safety, the anti-shock system sensors scan and measure the skin's resistance to electricity and automatically adjust the microcurrent to best suit the skin.

"The technology means this is a beauty tool that does all the work to firm, tone and energise while you sit back, relax and bear-ly lift a finger," said Leong.

The downside is that you have to use the skintech device regularly to maintain results, in the same way as going to the gym to keep in shape.

Bear is used with a conductive serum, which safely transfers the microcurrents to the skin. At the same time, the serum's absorption is enhanced by the invigorating T-Sonic pulsations.

Founded by Filip Sedic in 2013, Foreo is a beauty tech company based in Sweden. Its disruptive nature is driven by Sedic, who previously worked in digital marketing and telecommunications.

The Foreo For You app has to be downloaded and registration is required. A preferred routine and microcurrent intensity can be selected via the app or manually with the universal button. Preprogrammed via the app, the four-minute Total Facial Knockout routine is performed with Bear and Contour Cardio with Bear Mini.

Foreo's Bear skintech devices are available at Sephora stores.
