Cannabis, a long-time outlawed villain, takes centre stage during "Ganja Appetit", which is running at TCDC Commons Creative Food, 3rd floor of Seacon Square, Srinakarin Road, daily from 11am to 7pm, until Dec 15.
Organised by the Creative Economy Agency, the exhibition will allow visitors to learn more about cannabis and how to use it as an ingredient in food and beverages -- a practice that was evident in Mae Krua Hua Pa, Thailand's possibly first-ever cookbook with a cannabis dish written by Lady Plein Passakorawongse during the reign of King Rama V (1868-1910).
As rules on cannabis have been relaxed, many parts of the plant including roots, stalks, stems and leaves are allowed to be used for food, the exhibition will be a good chance to have a relaxed conversation about cannabis and cuisine.
The exhibition is divided into three parts. The "Journey Of Cannabis" features a large world map that explores the long history of this plant dating back 8,000 years and its role in spirituality, food culture and social movements.
The "Ganja Anatomy" showcases a cannabis strain named "Foi Thong Phu Pha Yon" and the distinctive characteristics of five other domestic strains. The proper use of cannabis and legal suppliers are also presented.
The last part, "It's Bigger Than A Plate With Ganja", gathers creative cannabis-infused food products and reveals how cannabidiol (CBD), a natural compound found in the plant, can take chefs and food tasters to a whole new level.
