A food fest for the health-conscious at EmQuartier

EmQuartier is hosting the "PatPat Camellia Seed Oil Festival", which will bring many products and dishes made from this nutritious oil from today until Feb 28.

Organised by the Chaipattana Foundation in collaboration with The Mall Group, this is another chance for health-conscious people in Bangkok to learn more about Camellia oleifera that was introduced at two previous fairs in 2015 and 2016.

Commonly known as oil-seed camellia and tea-oil camellia, Camellia oleifera is an important oil-bearing plant cultivated in China for its seeds. It made its way to the Kingdom in 2004 when HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn suggested the Chaipattana Foundation research the plant and cultivate it in the north of the country.

A decade later, the Camellia oleifera seed oil product was launched under PatPat, a brand that markets products from various sustainable projects under the Chaipattana Foundation.

At the fair, the edible amber oil with tea-like aroma will be reintroduced in a multimedia exhibition which will recount the journey of the young camellia plants from China to Thailand, how the tea oil can help get villagers out of poverty and bring sustainability to the community, and how Camellia oleifera is developed into quality products.

Visitors will also learn about the seed oil that has been dubbed as "an olive oil of the East", its miraculous properties, and its natural colour used in craftworks. A model of new theory in agriculture initiated by King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great will also be presented.

The exhibition zone is located in the Quartier Gallery on the M floor where many products from the shops under the Chaipattana Foundation will be available.

They include organic vegetables from Jan-Ka-Pak, camellia seed oil and other products made from the oil as well as the launch of silk fabric dyed with golden-brown colour extracted from the husks of Camellia oleifera. Gourmet Market's signature special dishes cooked by professional chefs using camellia seed oil will also be offered.

The fair also features a food expo zone at Quartier Avenue on the ground floor where famous chefs and over 50 restaurants will serve a range of sumptuous dishes that have camellia seed oil as the ingredient. Also, expect to see cooking demonstrations presented by popular food brands.
