Gucci store is geometrical delight

Last Friday, Gucci reopened its fully renovated flagship store at The Emporium in Bangkok.

The exterior conveys refinement through an Italian marble façade, with Belgium Black, Rosso Napoleon, Rosa del Garda and Calacatta Oro marble in a geometrical design blending elegantly with the surroundings and complementing the interior.

The mood within the store is one of discretion, driven by a surprising and unexpected combination of materials. Geometric mosaics of artisan woods produce decorative and dimensional effects on the floors blending harmoniously with the hand-painted parquet.

The juxtaposition is repeated through the interior, such as round tables offsetting rectangular ones, and the mechanical display units as well as industrial burnished brass shelving contrasting with the softness of the gold satin fabrics-lined display.

Velvet upholstery in sea blue adorns sumptuous armchairs and sofas while vintage oriental rugs are layered over one another for a textured effect.

The renovated store showcases a wide selection for men and women, including ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes, jewellery and accessories, as well as Gucci Décor. In addition, a private ready-to-wear area offers a beautiful view of Benchasiri Park.

The renovation equips the store with a Building Management System to monitor and promote energy efficiency, while LEED-certification further demonstrates Gucci's commitment to implement eco-friendly and sustainable initiatives.

Last year the Italian luxury brand celebrated its centennial. Pieces from its archive have been selected for an installation to mark the re-opening of the store, on display until May 22.

Defined by a series of illuminated arches, the LED floor leads to the installation area, displaying silk scarves featuring iconic prints, travel items including suitcases, beauty cases and duffle bags from the 50s, 60s and 70s.

Vintage styles like Jackie and Bamboo bags, now reimagined by creative director Alessandro Michele, are featured along with a number of more recent items from the latest collections.
