Overcome your inner loneliness at this exhibition

Overcome your inner loneliness at this exhibition

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

Tang Contemporary Art is holding "Alone Not Lonely", an exhibition to soothe lonesome people in this modern era, until Oct 30.

This is the Bangkok debut showcase for Jang Koal, a self-taught artist from South Korea who is globally recognised for her distinctive painting style and unique images. She constructs elegant imagery in which female figures are immersed in an imaginary parallel world filled with cats, flowers, and nature.

The girls in her paintings represent modern people living with the distress of reality, loneliness and broken hearts. Instead of depicting them living in a beautiful world, the artist has chosen to create characters with serene and candid nature, making her works more attractive.

The paintings reflect the way the artist looks at the world with a warm heart and her wish to help console distressed people. The cat, turtle, plant and other living things in the works come from her efforts to help share feelings with the girls, and at the same time, encourage viewers to look for the positive.

For her, saying hello to a cat, looking at the waving wild grass, spending time with friends or family members and even sparing time to communicate with our inner self are little things that can help calm our discontent.

The exhibition is aimed to present happy memories and share good moments with the viewers in order to give them the strength to overcome their inner loneliness and take a step forward. Viewers are also invited to share the moment of healing.

Jang Koal has exhibited in Seoul, Tokyo, Amsterdam, New York, LA, Hong Kong, London and Shanghai. She participated in artist residence programmes such as Residency Colección Solo House (Somo, Spain) in 2016 and Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris, France) in 2018.

The gallery is located at Room 201-206 of River City Bangkok, Charoen Krung 24 and opens Tuesday to Sunday from 11am to 7pm.
