Last year was all about the third Chinese zodiac animal, and Onitsuka Tiger roared in 2022 with a collection featuring fiery feline prints.

Because of the bunny’s tender nature, the Japanese brand marks the Year of the Rabbit with an understated redesign of the Mexico 66.

The double-six refers to 1966 when Onitsuka Tiger stripes first appeared on Limber-Up. Japanese athletes wore these sports shoes when competing at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City.

Since then, Mexico 66 has become the brand’s iconic model in fine leather with a stylish silhouette.

Inspired by the rabbit, the Onitsuka Tiger Stripes are expressed in suede and decorated with faux fur for the Lunar New Year 2023 edition.

In cream and birch shades, the adult model features recycled leather upper and an Ortholite sockliner for superior cushioning. The red sockliner is printed with the numbers 20 and 23 while the shoebox is also in red.

Children can also hop into the Year of the Rabbit wearing two variations, whose collar surface fastener allows greater ease in putting on and taking off the special-edition Mexico 66 Kids from the heritage series.
