Up to 86 innovations by faculty members and students of Kasetsart University take centre stage during "Kaset Fair 2023" which kicks off today and runs daily from 10am to 10pm until Feb 11, at its Bang Khen campus.

Held to mark the university's 80th anniversary, the annual fair showcases 86 innovative creations divided into 10 categories at Zone H, which is opposite to Chakkraphan Phensiri Building.

They cover agriculture and agricultural processing, food, machines and tools, environment, animals and fishery, science and technology, award-winning works, Covid-19-related creations, and products further developed for commercial purposes by the university, and University To Tambon (U2T) projects.

Among the interesting inventions include an air-conditioned solar greenhouse with artificial sunlight, a concentrated cricket protein drink, cassava-based noodles, applications for cow-scoring, real-time flood warning, and one called Farm-Dee-Mee-Sook, and a test kit for bacterial contamination in ice.

This zone also features 16 booths offering popular products and local products from 11 countries. They are presented by the embassies of the United States, France, China, Russia, Hungary, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Kenya, Netherlands and South Africa.

Kaset Fair has long been a fixture on the Bangkok event calendar and this year it gathers 1,400 shops across 11 zones. Visitors will enjoy shopping for food, agricultural products, farming equipment, plants, SMEs and Otop products, consumer products, home decor items, pets and pet supplies, as well as products from many organisations.

The highlights include contests on plants, fruits and animals such as betta fish, lambs and sheep. There will also be cultural performances and music by students on the central stage and inside the university's main auditorium. Food trucks will be there and children will enjoy fun rides at four playgrounds.

Meanwhile, the university's Extension and Training Office presents online demonstrations on various topics covering cooking, healthcare, sewing, painting, and planting. There are three courses a day at 10am, 12.30pm and 3pm and can be viewed via Zoom and through Facebook and YouTube. Visit eto.ku.ac.th.
