Pattani's unique cultural heritage will be showcased and interpreted in innovative ways during Pattani Decoded 2024, which will take place at four important venues in Pattani old town, from Saturday to Sept 1.

Organised by Melayu Living, a creative group in Pattani, in collaboration with many organisations, this third edition will initiate a dialogue about the local heritage and reimagine the perception of the region, which has been historically associated with violence.

The initial hypothesis of the festival's "Unparalleled" theme revolves around the vibrancy of clothing styles among local people. Tradition and modernity seamlessly weave the identities of the people in the region in a parallel manner, resulting in a vibrant display of outfit that reflects the diverse tastes and self-expression of the people in Pattani.

Pattani Pirom Street, Thedwiwat market, Prida Street and Jabang Tikor community will be closed to traffic, allowing visitors to enjoy up to 10 exhibitions, three pavilions and many activities, daily from 11am to 9pm throughout the nine days.

Highlight exhibitions include "Unparalleled" which will recount the timeline of historical changes in Pattani and showcase various clothing styles of each era; and "Hijab" which will discuss the head coverings for Muslim women in various dimensions from the perspectives of writers, creators and photographers.

Learn about the behind-the-scenes thoughts on clothing from a historical, cultural, social and fashion trend perspective across different eras in "Art & Fashion Collab", while the "Baju Guni" exhibition will showcase a selection of rare and second-hand shirts whose value ranges from the hundreds to the hundreds of thousands due to the stories associated with them.

Held with support from the Embassy of Australia, the "Old Masters: Australia's Great Bark Artists" exhibition will bring a special collection of aboriginal bark paintings from the National Museum of Australia.

For the first time at night, prepare to witness a light display on the facade of Masjid Raja Fatoni, a historic mosque that has been a centre of religious activities for the Jabang Tikor community for over 180 years.

Also, expect to shop for clothing and handmade items from new fashion entrepreneurs at a street market next to Jong A Hotel; while the Lorong Ruedee area in front of Thedwiwat market will become a hub for vintage clothes and cars.
