New exhibition looks to future of art

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

Art has seen a predominantly upward movement in Thailand over the past several years, and with this continuous growth, artworks have become more approachable to the general public, through numerous brand collaborations and frequent exhibitions.

With this, design consultancy company Farmgroup will be hosting its fifth Hotel Art Fair Bangkok at the 137 Pillars Suites & Residences, Sukhumvit 39, on Saturday and Sunday.

Held under the theme "Art In The Sky", the fair aims to promote new talent, push local artists internationally, and exhibit exciting art pieces from leading galleries all over the world.

Approximately 500 works will be displayed and available for sale in the luxury hotel. Joan Cornella, the Spanish illustrator who had a solo show in Bangkok last year, will exhibit around 20 artworks at the event. He is well-known for his dark and satirical works and widely acknowledged among art appreciators and lovers.

Ecstatic about coming back to Bangkok, he said in a surprisingly promotional manner: "What a great way to showcase and sell art! Unlike a regular gallery, guests will have six floors and 34 suites to explore, each with different types of art on display. How exciting. The fact that it is taking place at 137 Pillars Suites & Residences Bangkok is just icing on the cake, and I am hoping to be able to enjoy a dip in their amazing rooftop pool while I am there. I can't wait!"

Another leading artist is Manabu Koga, an underwater photographer from Japan whose photographic works of models underwater balance the line between quirkiness, light eroticism, and fashion. Furthermore, there will be local artists attending such as Niam (Surachai) Mawornkanong, Pomme Chan, Atty Tantivit and Viranod Buranasiri. Other leading artists and galleries include the Clear Gallery Tokyo, Kalwit Studio & Gallery, Serindia Gallery, Chin's Gallery, Eric Booth and Yui Olivia & Pel Sirot, Paw Dee Lifestyle, and Moon Landing.
