Mandarin Oriental Bangkok is to showcase the sumptuous biodiversity of Peruvian cuisine by world-acclaimed chef Gaston Acurio of Astrid y Gastón restaurant on May 17-19.

A Peruvian native, Acurio is also a writer, entrepreneur and one of the best known ambassadors of Peruvian cuisine to the world. He is responsible for helping shape the contemporary cuisine of Peru to what it is today.

Full of energy and profound passion, Acurio, now 50, currently operates more than 45 restaurants in nine countries across 12 different brands. His Astrid y Gastón, named after him and his pastry-chef wife and located in San Isidro district of Lima, Peru, has for three consecutive years been among the top 20 in the World's 50 Best Restaurants ranking.

During his three-night visit to the Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok, Acurio will take over the hotel's Lord Jim's restaurant kitchen to cook up a series of tasting and à la carte dishes for dinner. Guests are promised with delights from his signature delicacies such as ceviche afrodisiaco with king crab, sea urchin, clams and scallops; grilled octopus with anticuchera sauce, potato cream, black olive alioli garlic chips and roasted piquillo pepper; braised boneless lamb with quinoa tamales; and ahi tuna tataki with dashi and leche de tigre.

Chef Gaston Acurio's 5-course tasting menu is priced at 3,500 baht per person, while a 7-course meal costs 4,800 baht per person.
