The Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra will present a Romantic repertoire of two monumental works during the "Mayuko Kamio Plays Brahms Violin Concerto" concert in the Main Hall of the Thailand Cultural Centre, Ratchadaphisek Road, on May 30 at 8pm.

Japanese violin star Kamio was warmly embraced by Bangkok audiences when she showcased her dazzling musical and technical abilities through Paganini's Violin Concerto No.1 during her debut performance with the orchestra seven years ago.

This time, she will make a comeback to perform Brahms's Violin Concerto In D Major, Op 77, hailed as one of the four great German violin concertos. It will be followed by Sibelius's Symphony No.2 in D Major, Op 43.

Beginning the violin in Osaka at age four, Kamio's prodigious qualities resulted in her concerto debut only six years later with Charles Dutoit. She subsequently worked with the very best including the Tonhalle Orchestra with Mstislav Rostropovich in Zurich and the Israel Philharmonic with Zubin Mehta.

Described as "a radiant talent" by The New York Times, Kamio won the coveted Gold Medal of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2007 when she was only 21. She has released five impressive recordings, representing a large range of stylistic mastery and interpretative authority. She has toured with the National Philharmonic of Russia conducted by another great violin luminary, Vladimir Spivakov.

Conducting the RBSO will be their newly appointed music director, the Belgian maestro Michel Tilkin who has forged a strong and rewarding artistic relationship with the orchestra in recent seasons.
