The Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra presents "Elgar's Italian Journey", featuring the mostly late Romantic programme at Mahidol University's Prince Mahidol Hall, Salaya campus, on Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 4pm.

Maestro Dionysis Grammenos will make a comeback to conduct the orchestra in a repertoire of Elgar's In The South, Op 50; Brahms' Symphony No.2 In D Major, Op 73; and Creston's Concertino For Marimba.

Inspired by his family holiday to the sun-drenched beauty of Italy's coastal towns, In The South is the Elgar's masterpiece devoted to a real world that is, at the same time, a product of his fertile and special imagination.

Written in the summer of 1877, the four movements of Brahms's second symphony are full of warmth, brimming with optimism and overflowing with lush, joyful melodies.

The programme will conclude with the velvety sound of the marimba delivered by guest soloist Johannes Fischer, who has been regarded as the "percussion magician". He will perform Creston's very first solo concerto hailed by many as the most famous of all marimba concertos.
