The set-up

We know what you're thinking. Crêpes & Co (C&C) isn't exactly new to Bangkok's restaurant scene. Hey, it has actually been in the game for twenty years. And this is a cause for huge celebration. Happy 20th Birthday C&C!

There's something so heavenly about the homey feel of C&C's Langsuan branch. The soft brown walls and wooden floors spark a warm fire in your soul. There's an air of laissez-faire here. It's the place you're most likely to bump into a laid-back Luke looking like he's having a chilled out Sunday afternoon at home. Except he's not at home, he's at C&C.

You've got your white canvas sofas, your wide selection of magazines, your walls adorned with beautiful photographs and high ceilings that allow your brain space to breathe and ponder life's bigger questions. And, you've got delicious old-fashioned French coffee. It's a home away from home, really.

The menu

We went for the French baked egg (B230++); very French indeed, right down to the crispy slices of baguette you dunk into the melted emmental cheese and gleefully pop into your mouth. What we really liked about this was the homemade tomato sauce that comes inside the bake, which makes the whole dish taste very fresh. There were only three small slices of the baguette, though, and not enough to wipe the ramekin clean.

We tried the Crispy hash brown skillet (B450++) and the Spicy egg pan (B450++), two fried egg/omlette-esque dishes, the latter suitable for vegetarians. Both were delicious, right down to the home-made hash browns and not-so-spicy-homemade tomato sauce -- we are Bangkokians after all, nothing is spicy anymore. But again, compliments to the sauce. #saucematters. We do feel, however, the skillets were quite pricey. Just over half that price would make more sense.

We also went for Lemon blueberry French toast (B310++). This comes with a slice of lemon which compliments the fresh blueberries perfectly. Again, the price was high but we do understand the pricing behind this one as C&C gives a very generous portion of blueberries. If you've ever bought blueberries in Bangkok you'll know how outrageously expensive they are. We would totally order this again.

Our favourite had to be the Mini pancakes (B210++). C&C has outdone itself with these. Not only are they scrumptious and soft, but the topping is probably the best and most innovative we've ever tried: ricotta cheese and mixed berry coulis. There's a zesty punch that the ricotta adds to the mix that we feel even a lemon couldn't replicate. Well done, guys. This is one to even try at home if you do decide to venture into the kitchen.

We took away the Granola & yoghurt (180++) which we enjoyed for breakfast the next morning. Homemade granola, homemade yogurt, banana and dark chocolate chips – need we say more?

Insider tip

Be sure to grab a sofa when you go. It just adds to the overall experience of being at home. And, they are so comfy you could probably squeeze in an afternoon snooze.

Value and verdict

Just because you're not a new pop-up restaurant, doesn't mean to say we don't value you. Guru gives a standing ovation to all the "veterans" out there like C&C that never go out of business. There's a clear reason why C&C hasn't. We really like how restaurants like these consistently re-invent themselves while still remaining true to their identity.
