Official description

Get used to knowing what Siam Paragon's North Zone refers to because that's where many new and exciting restaurants have been popping up, one of them of course being the famous Clinton Street Baking Company. The Bangkok branch may not be located in ideal surroundings, compared to the original standalone in Lower East Side New York, but efforts to emulate the vibes as close as possible are commendable. The diner is open before the mall, at 8am, same as the New York one. There's direct access via the cobblestone road between Siam Kempinski and Siam Paragon, so you can avoid stepping foot in the mall altogether. The red diner couches are there and so is the iconic red ridged storefront. Even the table setting, complete with a bottle of Tabasco, seems to be doing something purposely to make us feel nostalgic for US diners.

It's not all about the pancakes

The Menu

Those insta-perfect blueberry pancakes have clearly become the symbol of this brand. But this overexposed image overshadows the crucial fact that Clinton Street Baking Company is not a pancake cafe, but an all-day diner that serves a range of classic American comfort food. So let's begin with the ultimate American comfort food: burgers.

We skipped the signature Black angus (B450) for a rarer find, the Sugar bacon burger (B480). It's an aggressive-looking platter; homefries, a whole pickle and huge sugar-cured bacon strips jump out from the dish in all directions. It's a salty burger, but salty in the good way because the seasoning comes primarily from the blue cheese. You won't find a gourmet burger that does so little but accomplishes so much as this baby.

Alternatively for savoury-sweet comforts at Clinton, there's the Chicken & waffles (B320). This dish features a 24-hour marinated piece of chicken and buttermilk waffles which, individually, are good on their own; combined, are something else; doused in the signature maple butter, are above and beyond! We haven't had a chicken waffle in town this good.

Brioche French toast & Salted caramel milkshake.

Now moving onto the exclusively sweet stuff -- alright, the pancakes (B260/320), how good are they really? We hate to admit it but they're pretty darn good. Personally, we have always preferred the natural bounciness of American-styled buttermilk pancakes over the unreal aerodynamics of Japanese hotcakes. But on top of that, Clinton's batter seems to have found the perfect balance between soft and sturdy, thick and thin and sweet and bitter. Along with the berries and that maple butter sauce, these pancakes are worthy of your moans.

But hold up! We actually thought the French toast (B260) here was better than the pancakes. Yea, that's right New York Magazine! The banana almond brioche french toast, with its firmness and sweet nutty flavours, was the real prom queen for us. If you wanna go all out, get it with a side of the Salted caramel milkshake (B140) -- legit. (Shot of bourbon applicable.)

Insider's Tip

You're probably going to be more interested in pancakes and waffles than actual cakes when you eat in at this restaurant. However, Clinton Street BAKING Company also has some great cakes and pies, go figure. If you're a fan of carrot cake, we recommend taking home Clinton's rendition. The New York-style Blueberry cheesecake (B180) also beckons universally.

Value & Verdict

We always have our reservations about chains that arrive here with so much hype, but Clinton seriously brings exceptional standards with their style of simple American food. The prices aren't even outrageous for what brunch costs in this city these days, so if you're down for going out and splurging on breakfast -- particularly a sweet one -- why aren't you here? g
