This Italian restaurant, whose decor blends a rustic steampunk vibe with a dark Gothic touch, is owned by a veteran Singaporean restaurateur. It serves the widely popular cuisine and a Thai adaptation alongside an impressive selection of authentic Thai food and a few dishes with a Singaporean twist.
Even though the stars of Mont Calzone cuisine include wide varieties of thin, crisp pizzas, you would easily find a group of Thai curry fans, too.
From the sweeping menu, we tried, as the restaurant's name suggests, the calzone pizza. Our order of a four-cheese calzone (380 baht) featured a crescent-shaped pizza puff, of which its crispy paper-thin shell encased a piping hot, gooey filling of mozzarella, Gorgonzola, Taleggio and Parmigiano Reggiano cheeses. The bland-looking pizza is delectably addictive especially if you're a cheese fan.
However, the signature "The Morning After" featuring mushrooms, bacon, mozzarella and home-made ketchup, topped with a sunny-side-up egg and served with truffle fries, may be a better choice.
And should you crave Thai pungency, don't miss the tom yum spaghetti with grilled river prawn (380 baht). The spaghetti was cooked to Thai preference, which means soft rather than al dente. Yet, it intermingled deliciously with the spicy tom yum cream and plump, pan-grilled river prawns.
For dessert, Nutella-glazed pizza with almond flakes accompanied by a scoop of tiramisu vanilla ice cream is a must have.
A wide selection of wines along with cocktails and mocktails are available.
