Lifestyle landmark plans to ring in 2014 with a global bang

When Asiatique the Riverfront first opened in 2012, it proved to be a success on several different levels.

First, it developed a huge, forgotten swath of prime riverside real estate with tremendous historical significance and magically transformed it into a modern, vibrant lifestyle landmark while preserving and celebrating its century-old history.

Secondly, it created a modern, happening hangout which appeals to all ethnicities and age groups because of its universal offerings_upscale trendy environment, fine dining, trendy shopping, historical sightseeing, and scenic strolls.

Thirdly, it spacious environs and expansive venues are perfect for large groups, such as birthday parties and business gatherings.

Asiatique truly has something for everyone. In the daytime, school children use it as a meeting place. In the evening, it is an ideal choice for an after work drink or a romantic dinner and stroll. On weekends, families flock to Asiatique because kids love the wide open spaces and exploring the different zones.

And every December, Asiatique puts on a show to remember, culminating with its New Year's countdown and fireworks display.

Asiatique Festival Countdown 2014 encourages revellers to "light up the colours of life" with an evening of partying, featuring live performances from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. by artists Tata Young, Pop Pongkool, Boy Peacemaker, Ice Saranyu, New & Jiew, Rit The Star, and Jetset'er.

Countdown to midnight and witness the longest (7 minutes), and perhaps most spectacular, fireworks showcase in Bangkok, complete with panoramic views of all the other fireworks displays along the river.

The event will be broadcast live on Channel 3 from 23:30-00:30. Also, Reuters will broadcast the festivities live from 23:55 onwards to 1,000 TV stations around the world.

Also on the card are the International Food and Beverages Festival, which has sourced delicious food and drinks from all corners of the world, and Gift Festival, for people who are looking for presents during the holiday season.

Beer lovers should explore the International Beer Park with Chang and Mehkong bars along the river. Also, make sure to stop by Flann O'Brien's, an authentic Irish pub, and Brew, which claims to have over 300 imported beer labels in stock.

For those in search of the perfect romantic evening, the 60-metre-high Asiatique Sky Ferris Wheel will give you stunning panoramic views of the Chao Phraya River. If you are up there at midnight, you and your sweetheart will be privy to an unrivalled seat for the countdown to 2014 and the spectacular fireworks display. When you come down, you can take a leisurely stroll under the stars along the impressive Asiatique boardwalk, the longest in Thailand. Afterwards, make your way over to the Juliet Love Garden and show your eternal affection for each other by purchasing a Love Lock (B80), writing your names on it, and affixing to the fence near the Juliet statue where it will remain forever.
