Newsflash 2017 to meet ‘Gala End’ at Amari Watergate Hotel

Pratunam, Bangkok, 31 December 2017 - Time watchers and annual gala enthusiasts were set to gather this day to bid an emotional farewell to nearly completed heliocentric revolution and popular current year, Twenty Seventeen, who is expected to expire at month’s end due to the effects of terminal Auldlangsyne Syndrome.

Seventeen - who at over 360 days old - is nearing its inescapable one-way sojourn into the annals of history, will hand over the keys to the calendar to Chief Temporal Officer Father Time at the midnight conclusion of a grand commemorative soiree.

The unprecedented pre-expiration memorial ceremony will be held on December 31st at the sacred grounds of the eighth-floor Outdoor Garden of Amari Watergate Hotel. The luxuriant venue will host a Tribal Bash themed New Year’s Eve party, where ’17 fans will offer support to one another through participation in musical and dance rituals, along with the consumption of hallowed foods.

The proceedings will feature a lavish ceremonial banquet of specially prepared victuals, and will be officiated by Scots folk-rock ensemble Bahookie - who will travel by air-carriage from the land of Scotland expressly for the event. Also appearing, the most reverend DJ Chris will spin dance-dirges and drop sick beats to provide some solace to the gathered festive-time celebrants and party-til-the-early morn’ers.

When asked why Amari Watergate was chosen as the spot where the very last tick of its timer will play out, Seventeen had nothing but praise for the Elder Statesman of Bangkok’s hospitality scene.

“Well honestly, Amari Watergate really knows what it’s doing as far as gala events go, having been around since - who was that guy last century? ah, right … Nineteen Eightyseven”, the veteran Year adding: “The W’Gate has held some pretty cool events during my time, and the food is amazing, so really you couldn’t ask for a better festive send-off venue - I’ve been waiting all me for this party.”

Commemorating the soon-to-be-redundant year’s impending passage, the Gala Dinner Buffet feast will highlight the Amari’s Watergate’s wide-ranging culinary oeuvre, with an appetite-rousing array of cuisines including Chinese; Italian; Western; Japanese; and, of course Thai, prepared by the hotel’s staff of talented native-cooking chefs.

Some of the vast spread’s highlights include ocean-fresh seafood on ice, fresh enough to have just been plucked from the centre tine of King Neptune’s Trident. The crustacean temptations include assorted premium imported Oysters, Alaskan King Crab leg, Blue Crab, River and Tiger Prawn, Rock Lobster and Razor Clam - just to name a few - along with prepared seafood like Smoked Salmon, assorted Fish Roe, Scallop Ceviche, Salmon Tartar, Seared Tuna and Seafood Salad. And Hai!, a variety of sushi bites and sashimi creations will also be among fresh fish options.

Along with yum-inducing hybrid dishes like Parma Ham-wrapped Monkfish, there will be hot traditional fare aplenty such as imported French Seared Foie Gras with forest fruit compote; Hong Kong-style Suckling Pig and Pecking Duck; and Whole Roast Wagyu Prime Rib. And at the risk of appearing cheesy, a selection of fine imported curds will populate the Cheese station.

Amid the feasting and reminiscing about the dearly (almost) departed year, guests can enter a charity raffle which, according to succeeding calendar-designate Twenty Eighteen (no relation), will “benefit those in need during MY term in office - so take that, One-Seven!”, in what is being interpreted as a good-natured taunt directed at the outgoing year.

Twenty Seventeen is the latest in a series of recent years to face the Ultimate Midnight Hour, including the decade-turning Twenty Ten, the financially tragic Twothousand Andeight, and the freakishly palindromic Twothousand Andtwo.

Also in homage to year Two-Oh-One-Seven, a Casino themed Gala Dinner at Watergate’s 32nd-floor with live jazz, a cornucopia-level international dinner buffet (Roast Dutch Veal Loin with Champagne Chive Cream Sauce, anyone?) and dazzling stroke-of-midnight fireworks display.

And then, to celebrate the inaugural sunrise of up-and-coming star Twenty Eighteen, Amaya Food Gallery will host a New Year’s Day Brunch featuring Amaya’s expansive “buffet village” of world cuisine delights and a lavish all-included libation suite with all-you-can-quaff vinos, brews and traditional morning-after-the-party cocktails. So come join the fun, all in loving memory of beloved 2017… so let us not forget and LET’S PARTY.
