Thailand is famous for fine silk fabric as well as sericulture, which attracted Clé de Peau Beauté to source golden cocoons from silkworms, cultivated in the northern part of the country, for making luxurious skincare products.

Rubbing an empty cocoon on the skin can readily slough off dead cells and revitalises the complexion through a silk protein called sericin containing 18 amino acids. Sericin alone or in combination with silk fibroin has been used in the formulation of skin, hair and nail cosmetics.

A high-end brand under Shiseiso, Clé de Peau Beauté takes that to the next level by extracting a sumptuous fluid from silk fibres, naming it Platinum Golden Silk Essence.

The hydrating silk essence is combined with Japanese pearl and theanine for the Illuminating Complex EX, a signature ingredient in The Serum, The Cream and Intensive Eye Contour Cream.

Harvested from the Sea of Japan in December and January, the pearl is also extracted for a brightening and firming elixir whereas plant-derived theanine helps even the skin for a smooth complexion.

These three ingredients give this cocooning skincare collection a hefty price tag, with the serum costing 11,000 baht and the cream 37,500 baht.
