A charity run for refugees will be organised by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Google Thailand on Feb 18 in Bangkok.

Called "YouTube Run For UNHCR", the event will raise funds for the work of UNHCR, the organisation mandated by the UN to lead and co-ordinate international action for the worldwide protection of refugees and the resolution of refugee problems.

"Caring for one another as human beings is our responsibility," said Praya "Pu" Lundberg, UNHCR goodwill ambassador, model and actress, who will join the run.

"Global displacement is at an all-time high, and we feel strongly about helping where we can,'' said Google Thailand Country Director Ben King, adding that Google has been a long time supporter of UNHCR, working to provide emergency support and access to vital information and education for refugees.

More than 30 celebrities and popular YouTube creators will join the event such as Nakorn "Ple" Silachai, who has more than 1 million subscribers from his "Ple Nakorn" YouTube channel; Krit Boonyarung, aka Bie the Ska, whose YouTube channel has more than 6 million subscribers; Atthakorn Rattanarom from Kan Atthakorn's Channel, which has 2.5 million subscribers; and Pattamaporn Preechawuttidech from Sunbeary Channel, with 1.9 million subscribers.

The charity run will feature a 10km Mini Marathon and a 5km Fun Run. It will start from 6-8.30am at Rama IX Park on Chalerm Phrakiat Ror Kao Road, inside Sukhumvit 103 (Udomsuk).

Tickets are priced at 500 baht for a normal entry and 1,000 baht for VIP entry.

All proceeds from the charity event will go to UNHCR to provide life-saving assistance and protection to refugees in some of the biggest emergencies around the world such as those in Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
