Client complaints had celebrity colourist Rita Hazan solving their problems by creating her own product line in 2011.
“Every day my clients would ask me what to do to maintain colour between salon visits, and at the time there wasn’t a product on the market easy enough for people to use,” said Hazan, whose solution was a root concealer.
The iconic product from her eponymous brand will come to Thailand, at Sephora’s physical and online stores, on March 1.
Skincare-wise, a concealer corrects flaws such as dark circles under the eyes or brown spots on the face.
The root concealer is a quick fix for grey hair growing out between salon visits, with a pinpoint actuator to do the job exactly where needed.

“You hold it eight to 25cm away from hair and mist it back and forth,” she said. “Free from ammonia and peroxide, it’s made from natural pigments and has a little bit of resin in it to adhere to the hair. It’s also great for men and women with thinning hair because it adds thickness and depth.”
A little goes a long way, so don’t over-spray, she added, and doing so from too close a distance will result in excessive colour deposits. The root concealer comes in five shades, from blonde to black, and, like the make-up, choosing the right colour is key for a seamless result.
The success of the root concealer was followed by a touch-up stick for masking greys around the hairline. The creamy formula can also be used to define brows as well as cover any grey, with the accompanying little brush.
Hazan has created trendsetting looks for the likes of Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez and Jessica Simpson.

The beautiful hues can be preserved by using products for colour-treated hair, of which the Rita Hazan collection offers True Color shampoo, conditioner and shine gloss.
“You need products that are colour-safe, paraben-free, sulfate-free and have UV protection, for the cleansing, hydrating and moisturising that will result in long-term healthy, beautiful hair,” she said of her thinking in creating the Rita Hazan range.
Enriched with silk protein, panthenol and pro vitamin B5, the hair gloss helps extend colour vibrancy and prevent fading. Besides a clear gloss, the celebrity colourist developed pigments for options to naturally match auburn, brown, blonde and brass hair.
The final step in Rita Hazan’s routine, Lock + Block Protective Spray containing vitamins and antioxidants, further preserves colour as well as holds the hairstyle, while protecting hair from humidity and UV rays.
