Editorial Reviews

The highly anticipated Ploenchit Fair is scheduled to take place on November 26 and will be held once again in the riverside grounds of Shrewsbury International School on Charoen Krung Road. Organised annually by the British Community in Thailand Foundation for the Needy, this year's event will be the 54th such fundraiser.

As always the fair will feature an enormous array of outdoor attractions and entertainment to ensure a fun-filled day. For the young and young at heart there's a ferris wheel, carousel, go-karts, "Euro Bungy", a giant wave slide, mini golf and 20 or more stalls offering interactive games of skill and the chance to win great prizes.

In the "Petticoat Lane" zone there will be an array of live entertainment together with more than 50 shopping outlets including charity stalls selling a vast assortment of clothes, gifts, cosmetic products and foodstuffs.

Last year's fair attracted nearly 14,000 visitors from the Thai and international communities and raised some 5 million baht. This money was distributed to more than 25 charitable projects around the country and used to fund agricultural, sanitation and irrigation schemes, purchase educational materials and medical supplies, finance fish- and silkworm-raising ventures and support HIV/Aids awareness programmes.

A portion of the money raised at this year's event has been earmarked for flood victims.

The fair will run from 10am and 8pm and admission costs 150 baht (50 baht for children). There will be a free shuttle-boat service from the Taksin pier to the school.
