Official description

Rarely-seen ancient Thai fabric is on display at the ‘‘Arts of the Kingdom... Our Motherland’’ at Future Park until Aug 18.

Held in honour of HM the Queen’s 81st birthday under the concept of ‘‘Mother of Thai Fabrics’’, the fair is a chance to see various kinds of traditional Thai fabrics including:

- Thong pae luad, a blind decorated with a gold-lacquered sheet perforated in traditional Thai patterns used to decorate the Suphannahong Royal Barge.

- Praewa silk, which is called the ‘‘Queen of Silk’’ by HM the Queen.

- Teen jok or Lanna silk, which originated in Chiang Mai.

- Wrap-around skirts woven with 95% antique gold thread in various patterns.

Available for sale are an array of quality products from the Royal Project such as loincloth bags from Silpacheep 904 Shop, jewellery, necklaces, bracelets, earrings and pearls from Thak-Roy Soy-Rak Shop, ceramic from Chulabhorn Research Institute and produce from the Royal Chitralada Project.

Also present to offer their signature items are the Queen Sirikit Departmentof Sericulture, the Queen Savang Vadhana Foundation, Phufa Shop, the Support Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand, the National Councilon Social Welfare of Thailand and the Chaipattana Foundation.

Another highlight of the event is a showcase of fashionable outfits from the ‘‘Future Park Young Designer’’ competition. The pieces were created under the concept of ‘‘Haute-Couture Thai Loincloth to the World’’.
