The sky above Chiang Mai will be dotted with hot-air balloons this weekend.

The 7th Thailand International Balloon Festival 2013 will take place at Chiang Mai Gymkhana Golf Club and is expected to attract up to 50,000 visitors.

The balloons will take off between 6am and 7pm on both days, with each ride lasting an hour. A retrieval car follows each balloon to collect the crew and pilot on landing.

Fun activities will start at 3pm with attractions, including tethered balloon rides, kite flying and a game station.

Up to 50 free rides will be offered each day, and there will be a lucky draw on Dec 8 with five seats on a balloon ride to be given away as top prize.

A highlight will be the night glow with accompanying light and sound, plus a fireworks display at 6.30pm.

This will be followed by entertainment with internationally famous artists performing live on stage. The line-up includes Jazz Bacanus, Palmy, Hugo, Garth Taylor from Johannesburg, and Nueng Jakkrawan.

Tickets cost 200 baht (50 baht for children) and are available from Chichang Computer at Promenada Resort Mall, Rimping supermarket, Nawarat and Mee Choke, Chiang Mai. Visit www.thailandballoonfestival.com
