Official description

Clara and the Nutcracker Prince will lead audiences on a dream journey to explore dances from various countries during The Nutcracker 2014, which will be staged at Chiang Mai’s Kad Theatre, on Nov 2 at noon and 3.30pm.

A collaboration of the Embassy of Peru and the Parents and Teachers Association of the Chiang Mai Ballet Academy, the charity performance will feature classical ballet, contemporary and jazz dance, as well as dances from Spain, Africa, Russia, China and Peru.

It will be performed by professional dancers — Dr Peera Phanlukthao, Cathrin Ballmer, Sirada Limjeerajarat, Khemruthai Chaiwipassatorn, Chatnapha Kittirattanapaiboon, Piyawat Muninthorn and Pavinee Suemanotham.

The cast also includes two guest artists from Peru — Miguel Zambrano and Giuliana Garay — and more than 300 students from the Chiang Mai Ballet Academy. Taking the role of artistic director for the show is Mom Luang Preeyapun Sridhavat, winner of the 2002 Asia Pacific Women Inspired Award.

The show is part of Chiang Mai’s first “International Dance Festival”, which marks the 2015 50th anniversary of Thai-Peruvian diplomacy.

Peruvian films will also be screened, free of charge, during “The Week of Peruvian Films”, from Oct 31-Nov 7. The venue is the Faculty of Humanities, Chiang Mai University. All films are in Spanish with English subtitles.
