Official description

Prominent young choreographer James Batchelor from Australia and Thai artist Navinda Pachimsawat Vadtanakovint will present the innovative contemporary dance performance, Urban Templates, at the Creative Industries at M Theatre next weekend. Showtime is June 19 at 8pm, June 20 at 3pm and 8pm and June 21 at 3pm.

Examining human interactions within urban landscapes, the double bill performance comprises innovative works that bring together an exciting mix of Australian and Thai artists working across various artistic disciplines.

Award-winning Batchelor developed Metasystems during his ATI Artists in Residency in Bangkok. Documenting the processes taking place at construction sites in Bangkok, the show is an observation of the rapidly evolving urban landscape. Eight Thai and Australian performers and 512 concrete bricks are constructed and assembled in mesmerising patterns and rhythms.

In Fractals, Navinda combines dance, installation and sound design. Through the construction of uniform geometrical structures on stage, she explores repetitive patterns in human behaviour and social norms. The work portrays machine-like ways of living and the constant attempt to achieve perfect standardised form.

M Theatre is on New Phetchaburi Road. Tickets cost 300 baht (200 baht for students). Email creativeindustriesbkk@gmail.com and p.bangkokdance@gmail.com or call 086-300-2081 and 086-359-0904.
