Official description

The Rainbow Sky Association of Thailand (RSAT) — a Thai NGO advocating for gay rights — will be holding the Rainbow Sky Walk and Run for Charity at Lumpini Park this Sunday, from 3pm.

The event is set to commemorate the End of Violence against LGBT Day, which falls on Feb 21 each year in Thailand. The date marks the violence and hate speech against LGBT people and activists during a gay pride march in Chiang Mai on Feb 21, 2009. The event ended up being cancelled after parade participants were harassed by a local political group.

To mark the memory of this atrocious day, RSAT wishes to invite friends, families and allies of the LGBT community to come together to this famous green space of Bangkok on Sunday. The event will start from 3pm at Larn Tawan-yim in the park. Participants are asked to dress in white.

The walk and run — whichever participants are comfortable with — will cover 2.5km around the park. It is not a competition, and there will be no special prizes given. All participants will, however, receive a memento for their participation.

Tickets cost 20 baht each, and the stub will go into a lucky draw. Proceeds from the event will go towards the organisation’s work to end violence against gender diversity.
