Official description

Singapore-based artist Rizibë will showcase his artworks in which visual storytelling merges memory and fiction in exhibition “Lucid Beach” at RMA Institute. It features a new collection of prints, paintings and drawings by this self-taught artist whose signature visual narrative talks about nature and a sense of separateness and detachment. Enthralled by Southeast Asia’s mystique, his work incorporates eastern philosophy and we are not sure if his subjects conjure up a world of comedy or tragedy.

His past group exhibitions include “Singled Out by fFuriou” and a collaboration with Thai artist Kult. His works have been featured in Female magazine and Campaign Asia. Despite being a photography show-focused gallery, RMA has in the past couple of years successfully merged shows of other fine art mediums inside its space.

In “Lucid Beach”, Rizibë uses beach as a metaphor for life and the works discuss rigid perceptions of identity and the modern self. Using simple form and colours, while on the one hand the works discuss past experiences on love, on the other hand, these works invite viewers to treat them as complete abstraction, lacking clear-cut storylines or emotions.

‘Lucid Beach’ is on view from March 3, with an opening reception at 7pm, until April 17 at RMA Institute, 238 Soi Sai Nam Thip 2, Sukhumvit 22. Call 082-898-6584.
