Indoor floral paradise

Siam Paragon has been transformed into a floral paradise for the 10th "Siam Paragon Bangkok Royal Orchid Paradise" fair until Sunday.

Held in collaboration with the Horticultural Science Society of Thailand, this year's event aims to celebrate the 70th anniversary of HM the King's accession to the throne and to mark HM the Queen's 84th birthday.

Many zones of the shopping complex are decorated with more than 700,000 fresh orchids of various species. The Botanical Garden on the M floor will see the extravagant Seven-Headed King of Naga orchid arrangement that towers 3m-high from the neck to the crown.

The naga is the deity of water that signifies magnanimous power and prosperity. Its head is adorned with nine orchid families that are set to look like a flowing river to symbolise Their Majesties' compassion that has brought prosperity and happiness to the nation.

Another highlight is a delightful display of 14 orchid species that have been regally named by HM the King, at the Hall of Fame on the M floor. They include Cattleya Queen Sirikit, Paphiopedilum Princess Sangwan, Sirindhornia mirabilis H.A. Pedersen & P. Suksathan, Dendrobium Raktasirin, Dendrobium Rajkumari Violet, Phalaennopsis Princess Chulabhorn, Dendrobium Pink Nagarindra and Dendrobium Soamsawali.

Visitors will also learn more about many royal projects in various fields in an exhibition entitled "Plook Thai Nai Baeb Phor". There will also be live music featuring HM the King's compositions performed by the Royal Thai Air Force Jazz Orchestra from Friday to Sunday, 6-8pm.

To allow visitors to get to learn more about the orchids, students from Wattana Wittaya Academy will conduct a guided tour in Thai and English daily at 11am, 2pm and 4pm.

Call 02-310-1904.
